OUR CLUB
Come and enjoy model railways with a group of likeminded people. The club meets every Thursday evening from about 7-10pm in our clubrooms situated on a farm between Woolpit and Drinkstone. We have 3 clubrooms; Room 1 houses a large 00 permanent layout and a smaller N Gauge test track (currently being modified), Room 2 is for modelling with a long workbench and some basic tools and socialising with chairs and tea and coffee making facilities, Room 3 is for building Exhibition layouts, currently housing N gauge Sumwhere coming to the end of an extensive refurbishment and our new project Bury Station in 00. The club is also working on Bury Shed (00) and Thomas a children’s interactive layout in N.
Teams working on projects frequently meet at the club for daytime working sessions by arrangement.
We have about 30 members who are an eclectic mix of modellers in all gauges from N to G. Thursday evenings are a mix of modelling, running trains on the permanent layouts and chatting, helping solve problems and just putting the world to rights over a cup of tea.
We have occasional visiting speakers and throw these events open to other local clubs, as well as organising team outings to heritage railways, model rail shows and occasionally events abroad. We hold an annual exhibition [link to page].
Our social programme includes a “Christmas” Dinner usually held in January, and a Barbecue in the summer.
Membership is currently £70 a year.
Interested in finding out more? Email: enquiries@burystedmundsmrc.com and arrange to come and visit us one evening. We encourage prospective members to come for a few evenings before committing to joining the club.
We would love to see more children enjoying the hobby. Children are welcome to come but because of safeguarding rules must be always accompanied by a responsible adult. For membership purposes as child/adult combination would count as a single membership.ture.
